It is inevitable to prevent serious damage to the structure and thus to reduce the casualties.
During an earthquake, a lot of energy is applied to the structure and a way to reduce the transfer of this energy to the main structure should be sought. Structural control system can be used for this purpose. One of these types of systems is structural passive control systems, which are installed in structures. Viscose dampers are one of the most reliable energy dissipation devices widely used around the world. These types of dampers do not create a noticeable change in the modal characteristics of the system due to the added hardness to the system, as well as the ability to create significant attenuation. In this study, viscous dampers were designed by spectral analysis method according to ASCE7-10 code.
In the second part of this study, we investigate the applicability of these dampers on design weak structures for their improvement. For this purpose, three 3, 7 and 12 story steel structures with viscous dampers have been modeled using two-dimensional Opensees software and the performance of the structures based on the relative displacement between the floors, The investigation is underway before and after the refinement by the endurance time method. The endurance time analysis method is based on the time history analysis method, except that in this method, the structure is dynamically analyzed under an acceleration function whose intensity increases with time, dynamically nonlinear, and various structural failure indices along Time is examined. The different durations of the acceleration function of the endurance time represent the different earthquake intensities at each of the functional levels.
In the next section of this study, to ensure the accuracy of the durability time analysis results, its results are compared with the results of a nonlinear time history analysis of a set of seven accelerometers. Finally, it was observed that the results obtained from the endurance time method are close to the results of the nonlinear time history analysis of the Seven Accelerogram Set and also found that the viscous dampers have a good performance in reducing the relative displacement of floors in steel bending frames.
