From the very beginning steps of factories' industrialization and their use of production line with the purpose of mass production, quality control of the products was raised as an essential issue. Among different aspects of product quality control, measuring and checking the dimensions of manufactured parts is considered a serious factor.
Budget limitation and not facilitating the factories with the modern autonomous dimensional inspection equipment caused many factories to use human resources to check the final product dimensions. Considering the fact that human resources' limited accuracy can affect the whole quality control process, using auxiliary systems, which can increase the efficiency and diminish the time of the inspection process, is genuinely essential.
In the present work, a new image processing-based method is introduced. In this method, three photos are taken from each manufactured part, and after investigating the characteristics of the photos, the dimensions of the part are determined and will be shown on the photos. The method is developed using an old algorithm, which was used for distance measurements.
To validate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method, the dimensions of a part is measured. After taking three photos of the part, the Haris corner detection algorithm is employed by the means of Matlab software to obtain the size of the part. The results show only 4% error compared to the actual dimensions, which is an acceptable error and proves the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.
