This study explores the strategic planning processes in an investment holding and its subsidiaries companies in Iran. Also, this study explores the challenges and weaknesses that the organization faces in the field of strategic planning and the current process of strategic planning. Additionaly, the relationship between the strategic planning process of an investment holding and the challenges and weaknesses reported by peoples responsible for strategic planning in that organization were described. Furthermore, this study evaluates and reports the strategic planning process of an investment holding in a scale from traditional planning to planning based on the agile project management method. To find the answers to the research questions, a questionnaire was designed for people involved in the strategic planning process of the case study. This survey tool includes three sections: 1) information about the company and the participant, 2) the challenges and weaknesses of the organization's planning, and 3) the strategic planning process in the company. To analyze the data, a scoring system was developed to assess the challenges, weaknesses, and the strategic planning process in five areas including 1) time and resources of the process, 2) stakeholder participation, 3) effective implementation 4) process leadership, and 5) teamwork. At the conclusion, by reviewing and analyzing the data, management solutions were presented for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the strategic planning process based on the agile project management method. On the one hand, these solutions can improve the responsiveness of the strategic plan against changes and pressures in the business environment, on the other hand, these solutions can reduce the time, cost, and resources required to develop and implement the strategic plan.
