Leadership means affecting people; This influence can be achieved in any way, such as giving orders, consulting, motivating, or even delegating responsibilities to them (delegating authority) and so on. So far, several styles and theories have been proposed about leadership, but no style has yet been developed that is appropriate for all situations. One of these theories, which has many fans, is situational theory. This theory states that there is no single leadership style that is appropriate for all situations and the manager can use it to achive the desired results, and managers must choose a style based on the situation they face.
This study examines and analyzes the impact of the four styles of situational leadershipe theory proposed by Hershey and Blanchard (1982) on the projects success. The statistical population of this study consists of project managers of construction contractors companies in the city of Tehran with 40 people. To determine the leadership style of project managers, a leadership questionnaire with 10 questions was used and to determine the success of the project, a project success questionnaire with 5 questions was used. Descriptive statistical methods such as frequency tables, central indicators and graphs, as well as inferential statistical methods including Phi and V Kramer test and Spearman correlation test were used to analyze the data by using the software.
The research results show that among the four leadership styles of situational leadership theory, managers use the participating leadership style that is conern with people (relationship-oriented). The results also showed that leadership styles and project success have a significant relationship.
