Today, one of the most important concerns of urban design is attention to the environment, and one of the most important concerns of urban designers is the adaptation of the city to the characteristics of the environment and creating favorable conditions for human reconciliation with nature. Landscape Urbanism approach plays an important role in eliminating the contrast between the artificial environment and the natural environment in the city. Attention to landscape urbanism creates an environment that, through physical, social and visual qualities, manifests the dynamic activities and vitality of urban spaces Also, the adaptation of cities to the environment and the natural context of the city increases the people attendance, inclusion and improves landscape performance and ecological sustainability.
The present study is defined to solve the existing problems and possible future problems due to the lack of suitable spaces around abandoned rivers, and its main purpose is to identify the existing facilities and limitations for rivers and use them to provide an optimal design. The central river of Khomein city stretches from the southwest to the northeast in the middle of the city and its Riverbed has been completely dry for several years, except in some parts. The drying up of the river has had many negative consequences and has caused problems for the city of Khomein. Among these problems, it could be mentioned environmental issues and problems due to the existence of polluting sources and their overflow into the river, lack of social vitality and lack of prosperity of waterfront economic activities in the city of Khomein. Issues in the riverbed, territory, and urban spaces around the river have ultimately led to the forgetting of nature in this area. On the other hand, the scientific and professional gap between the fields of urban design and natural landscape architecture increases the need to integrate these two fields in the form of another approach.
In general, due to the nature of the process and the characteristics of this river, the method of conducting studies in this project is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. In different stages of processing, each of these methods is used according to the characteristics and requirements ahead. Quantitative methods are used in cases such as Surveys dimensions, cases related to river hydrology, economic issues, physical surveys, etc., and qualitative methods are used to identify the range and analyze and measure its characteristics. In this research, techniques such as social surveying, observation, SWOT, library studies, AHP, etc. are used.
The results of the research indicate that the landscape urbanism approach as a solution to reconcile humans with nature in the study area is examined. Thus, the general solution for this process is to connect the city with nature as much as possible in the form of a naturalistic approach and based on the principles of landscape urbanism.
