In designing a subspecialty transgender center for transgender people, we seek to create an architectural space that moves with the help of environmental factors to achieve mental and physical health and spatial effects are an effective factor on transgender health. The two main groups of clients of this center are transgender people from "Male to Female (MtF)" and "Female to Male (FtM)". The effective and determining factor in the design is in fact "the residence time of these people". The recovery period and the length of treatment of these two groups are significantly different, we call this period the transition period. The duration of the "man to wom@n" transfer period is about three weeks and the "woman to m@n" transfer is about one month and two weeks. The average recovery period is about a month and a half, and the focus of the design is on this time because the purpose of being in this space is to prepare the person to enter the public space.
The five categories referred to this subspecialty center include, in the first place, transgender people from "Male to Female (MtF)" and "Female to Male (FtM)", followed by families of transgender people, ordinary people in the community and Who are insecure about their mental and physical condition. Every transgender person, like any normal human being, needs to be surrounded by all stages of treatment. The mental state of individuals in the pre-treatment and post-treatment stages is extremely important for designing the hierarchy of transgender spaces desired by transgender people in the micro-community formed for them, which is another point to be considered in designing this project.
In this design, spaces are categorized with two different approaches. The first category is based on the length of stay, which is intended for the two groups MtF and FtM. The second category is based on the period of transition, the pre-transition phase, which has the effect of "stress" on the individual, and the post-transition phase, which is actually the stage of self-knowledge, and sometimes the "depression".
As a result, according to the design approach, multi-layered spaces show themselves from the surgical ward to the entry of the individual into society. Transgender people who reach the stage of transition after passing the intrinsic stages and there is no way back to this stage must have reached psychological resilience and be familiar with all the antecedent and post-stimulus stimuli of society. From the surgical stage onwards, the person will enter the oncological stage. In the first layer, where the first residence is considered, is the private layer. The next layer is actually the second residence with a more open space and a semi-private space in which one can talk for up to an hour. The semi-public layer is a space for the last days of surgery that can have functions such as eating in public and walking. And the last layer is defined as the layer of public space and the prelude to entering the community, which can be associated with functional spaces such as cafeterias and waiting spaces, etc. with the person.
The ultimate goal of this project for this affected group is to create a sense of community as a prelude to the entry and adaptation of these people to society and to have a normal life as the most basic human right.
