Money is one of the elements of human life that has been common in different forms at different times.One of the types of digital assets that have been referred to as money and have emerged in recent years are cryptocurrencies. The advent of blockchain technology, cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin, and stable cryptocurrencies has led many central banks around the world to conduct research and projects to publish digital currency.
In Iran, studies in this field are being conducted by relevant organizations. The purpose of this study is to develop strategies for using national cryptocurrency in the banking system. To collect data, after library studies, with a number of cryptocurrency and blockchain experts, bank administrators, university professors, and economists on the strengths and weaknesses of the banking system and the opportunities and threats, an interview was conducted. Based on the results of the interview, a questionnaire consisting of the four sections was developed and completed by the members of the statistical sample. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by experts and its reliability was confirmed by SPSS software and Cronbach's alpha test. Friedman test was used to prioritize the most important internal and external factors. According to the results, the movement of the banking system from the traditional to digital banking is of the highest importance and innovation in the provision of services and products is of the lowest importance among the strengths of the banking system. Very limited connection with the international banking system and restrictions on some banking activities due to sanctions, the highest importance and the presence of banks in speculative markets such as gold, currency, real estate, instead of proper investment in the productive sectors of the economy is the lowest among the weaknesses of the banking system. The possibility of increasing transparency in the financial system, the most important opportunity for the banking system and preventing counterfeiting of money and other digitized documents are the least important factors. In the set of threats facing the banking system, changing the business model of banks due to the development of the national Cryptocurrency and reducing the need for multiple banking branches, reducing staff and eliminating some related jobs, has the highest rank and the possibility of society turning to and accepting the common cryptocurrencies as much as possible and the possibility of losing monetary governance in the country if the national Cryptocurrency are not developed, have the lowest rank. Based on the final score obtained from the matrix of internal and external factors, the development of national Cryptocurrency in the country's banking system is in position (WO).Using the SWOT matrix, four sets of strategies were developed, including offensive, defensive, conservative and competitive with the opinion of experts. By combining the extracted strategies, finally 9 general strategies were formulated and prioritized based on the opinion of experts and using pairwise comparisons, in order of importance. Accordingly, the strategy of publishing national cryptocurrency on the basis of domestic blockchain by the central bank with the support of the national currency, gold and its foreign reserves and with the participation of commercial banks is the most important strategy. The publishment and expansion of credible, accepted and shared Cryptocurrency with Iran's neighbors and largest trading partners on a common blockchain platform to facilitate and expedite monetary exchanges and reduce dependence on Swift has been selected as the least important strategy.
