Evaluation of sustainable urban transportion using decision-making techniques

Sustainable urban transportation is defined as the smooth movement of vehicles, people and goods, which requires the convenience for people and environmental stability at the lowest cost. Sustainable transport planning also considers the effects of transportation development on economic efficiency, environmental issues, resource consumption, landscape usage, and social justice, and contributes to reduction in environmental impact, increase in transportation system efficiency, as well as improvement in the social status. It aims to increase the efficiency of the goods shipment, logistic services and people transportation with minimal access problems. In this research, the sustainability of transportation has been evaluated by AHP hierarchical decision making technique. The required data are gathered during interview with 6 experts in this field. The obtained information were subsequently classified, evaluated and analyzed utilizing fuzzy hierarchal method. Three economic, social and environmental criteria along with their sub-dimensions were extracted and their own weight were calculated. Finally, it was found that the economic criterion has the greatest effect on the sustainable urban transportation and in addition to social and environmental criteria have an impact on this issue.
