The first question that every person asks himself is "what" and it is inherently seeking to find identity. Therefore, addressing it is a basic issue and a requirement. Since the platform for urban research is the city; Urban identity can be defined as the spirit of a city to which citizens can bring it back and revitalize that through collective memories. Strengthening the identity memory of the city is the main issue of research. Identity memory is the association of past memories of an event at a specific time and place for a group of a community that is recalled as shared objective and subjective experiences and is passed down between generations. After examining various solutions, the tool to achieve this goal is people-oriented art with an emphasis on painting, which is a subset of public art and inspired by collective art. In this way, public art is done with the participation of the people. That is, presenting a work of art in such a way that it is exposed to the public and has all the characteristics of a public art, but not by an expert, but with the participation of the people and their involvement in the ideation of the creation of the work of art; It means the people’s art for the people. The main goal is to strengthen the identity memory of the historical context of Imamzadeh Yahya and Sizdeh Pich neighborhood of Sari. An old neighborhood in the core of the city with a history of 650 years, the birthplace and orphanage of celebrities who have served humanity throughout history, a neighborhood with significant elements and forgotten identity is a good place to engage the audience and evoke identity memory.
The research is presented in two; theoretical and practical sections. In the theoretical section, information is collected by library method and study of documents. The basic concepts and theories of experts about identity memory and people-oriented art were collected and similar experiences were reviewed. Finally, the research framework was determined by analyzing the basic concepts around the research topic and using the views of experts and similar experiences, criteria and indicators to strengthen identity memory and people-oriented art as a tool to strengthen this component. The conceptual model was presented to better understand the relationship between these two components. In the practical part of case study, data were conducted both from the review of of library documents; and through observation, in-depth interviews and questionnaires. In-depth and unstructured interviews were conducted with 8 people using the narrative research method and 302 old residents with a history of living between 0 and 100 years who had more knowledge of the neighborhood were selected as the target group and the semi-structured questionnaire was filled in the form of criteria and indicators. In this way, information related to the research area was collected.
Finally, by analyzing the data by SWOT, suggestions were presented in the form of vision statements, strategies, policies and actions, and at the end, the Strategy plan, detail plans and urban design guidance to strengthen identity memory were presented as the final product.
