In recent years, one of the new modes of transportation in cities, especially in the country's metropolises, is Internet taxis, which have rapidly taken over a significant share of urban travel. Understanding the reasons for choosing this mode, the factors affecting it, and its effects on other modes of urban transportation are essential. In this study, the study, evaluation, and comparison of travel behavior and preferences of people who have a business and leisure-social trip purpose (considering Internet taxi as a way of travel) are considered.
Factors influencing the choice of Internet taxi, the vehicle is chosen by individuals to do their business or leisure-social trip before the arrival of Internet taxi and provide a model for estimating the share of Internet taxi travel in Tehran are among the main objectives of this study. For this purpose, a questionnaire has been designed about the socio-economic information of individuals, the reasons for using Internet taxis, information about the last business and leisure-social trip, and how people travel before the arrival of Internet taxis. The vehicles include six different modes of travel: personal car (as a driver), personal car (as a passenger), subway, bus, taxi, and internet taxi.
Research data were collected electronically based on questionnaires. Using the questionnaire data, two multinomial logit models were developed before and after the entry of Internet taxis. The results of these models show that after the advent of Internet taxis, the share of taxis and the subway has decreased significantly; in other words, the main competition is between Internet taxis and taxis and then the public transportation system. Most of the internet taxi passengers are women and students without jobs. Also, with the increase in the number of private cars available to the family and the travel distance, the use of Internet taxis will decrease
