Many psycholinguists believe that cognitive issues such as Emotional Quotient (EQ) are essential for language learning and vocabulary learning in particular. Moreover, the ability to speak and write in a second or foreign language with an appropriate level of vocabulary knowledge is a very complex task as it requires learners’ efforts to learn more words. According to the importance of EQ and vocabulary competence, this study investigated the possible correlation between vocabulary competence and EQ in Iranian contexts. To do so, 100 Female participants were selected from one of the high schools with the age of 14-17 through convenience sampling. In order to gather the data, the researcher adopted the vocabulary test and also EQ questionnaire to gather the data from participants. After collecting information and receiving data from the participants, the researcher of the study started to analyze the results from vocabulary test and EQ questionnaire through SPSS software. The results of the study showed that EQ of high school EFL learners is related to their vocabulary competence. Therefore, the more a participant was perceived to have higher EQ, the higher he/she might have better vocabulary competence. Language education beneficiaries like EFL teachers, learners, psycholinguists can benefit from the results of .the study
