With the expansion of human societies and the improvement of human social needs for a better life, as well as the limitations of residential space to provide some of these social needs, the necessity of being in collective spaces to perform some human activities has become very important. One of the most important concerns of today's designers in creating arenas and public spaces is to achieve a kind of successful space that can create a balance between urban spaces and the natural environment and create a social and self-sufficient landscape.
The issue of the quality of public spaces is one of the focus points of recent urban design researches, and efforts to create urban public spaces that satisfy citizens in various aspects have been proposed as one of the main strategies of urban design projects. Some urban organs can play a key role in creating attraction to increase social interactions, one of the most important of these types of organs are squares, redesigning this type of urban organs is an approach to increase social interactions in the city center.
Squares are a full-view mirror of the culture, customs and cultural assets of a city, as a result, the presence of the population in it can spread and strengthen these cultural factors. Currently, the square has taken on a meaning in the form of constellations and only plays a role. It has traffic role and is not considered as an opportunity for social improvement.
This research was carried out with the aim of achieving indicators and qualities of sociability of the urban space, in the area of Niavaran square, located in the first district of Tehran province. The basic research question is what are the sociability qualities of the urban space? This research is applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-analytical in terms of method.
In order to achieve the goals of the research, using the theoretical framework obtained from the second chapter, we determined the sociability indicators of the urban space in four physical, perceptual, social and functional dimensions. Based on the desired indicators, we prepared a questionnaire and distributed it among the statistical population of 250 people. In the following, by analyzing the data using SPSS and AMOS software, as well as preparing a SWOT table, we have compiled a vision and reviewed the goals, strategy and policy. Finally, by presenting the proposed alternatives and selecting the best option using Goler matrix, we started designing the best project and presenting its three-dimensional plans.
