The growing trend of urbanization and lifestyle changes, is mechanicalizing people’s lifestyle and leading to increasing global prevalence of depression. In fact, psychologists predict that by 2030 around 50% of the global population will be facing depression. On the other hand, the the quality and the manner of surrounding design could cause or prevent illness or physical damage, and also, could affect human’s feelings, functionality and emotions such as happiness. However, the phenomenon of happiness and addressing depression issues, has been neglected in housing design, at the present time. This study aims to design housing with regards to happiness indexes, gathered from psychological models. The research includes three major steps. Briefly, the first stage, is the review of joyful indexes’ context that has been addressed by descriptive statistical method. In the second stage, by content analysis method, 26 effective indexes of happiness had been extracted from 19 articles, and among those indexes three attributes of connection with nature, social interactions and light, had the most frequency regarding to effective happiness parameters in housing design. Afterwards, the author’s questionaries had been revised with respect to the frequency of the parameters resulted from subject’s context. At this stage, survey method had been exploited and 30 participants completed the questionaries. Referring to the questionaries’ outcomes, the light index, bright drawing rooms and mid-lighted bedrooms were the most correlated parameters of happy feeling, and also, regarding the connection with nature, the visualizations of balconies and yards that provide more effective interactions for residents, were the most prioritized ones. With respect to social interactions, both cozy space (in-between space) and living room had the most frequency of being joyful. In the design stage, physical plan, residential units’ selection schedule, essential sub-spaces of the complex and geographical location have been discussed and analyzed, respectively. Based on the garnered results, the solutions of housing design for responding to the needs of improvement in relation with nature, light quality and social interactions have been proposed. Solutions include, consideration of central greenhouse in macro sacle and high standard private yards in micro scale for enhancing the residants’ connection with nature, consideration of unit’s inbetween spaces in both indoor and outdour scale for improving social interactions and fulfilling the chain of social spaces in housing. Morover, the stationary and fixed sun-shileds has been desinged provide better quality of light.
