Visual aids, like pictures can be used to aid reading comprehension. The aim of the present study is to investigate the effect of pictures on academic reading comprehension of engineering students. A total of 50 students participated in this study in two groups. One group read academic texts with the help of pictures delineating academic vocabulary, the second group did not have access to pictures as they were reading. After the texts were read, they were given an immediate post-test, consisting of true/false, multiple choice questions, and wh questions. An independent groups t-test was applied to the data. The results of the academic reading comprehension tests indicated that the two groups performed differently.
