Widespread increase of natural and human disasters and hazards has become a challenge for the sustainability of societies and its consequences cause more attention to the issue of crisis management and prevention and recovery from danger. Hence, the concept of resilience, which is directly related to the capacities of change through attention to the internal capabilities of society and the learning mechanisms of members, has been considered as a process-oriented approach.Social resilience as one of the dimensions of resilience emphasizes the role of social capitals and the ability of institutions, networks and social connections to achieve the most important goal of resilience: resilience. Considering that the social capitals of societies are promoted in the context of location, the role of urban design is highlighted due to the focus on the direct relationship between man and place. Resilient urban design by applying positive interventions revitalizes social capital and creates capacities, adaptations and the possibility of changing capacities so that the society can withstand the shocks and blows and the ability to return or the possibility of change and adaptation in itself. For this purpose, Tehran's Imamzadeh Ghasem neighborhood has a historical texture whose ancient core with Imamzadeh's centrality has special values and characteristics such as high social structure and cohesion, special religious identity. However, this rural settlement has become one of the urban neighborhoods with the aim of rapid growth of the city with the passage of time and extensive physical interventions. One of the most important consequences of such a development is the change of social fabric and the weakening of social capitals, which with the reduction of the number of original and old residents of the neighborhood, concepts such as belonging, sense of place, spatial identity and physical personality along with concepts related to social capital such as interactions, participation, trust, etc. It is also weakened. In addition, such a neighborhood is faced with potential environmental hazards and crises such as being located on the main faults of the city, proximity to floods, extensive and unprincipled construction, etc. It will not have the necessary resistance and resilience and will require new design interventions to improve the social resilience of the neighborhood. The main objective of this study is to identify effective criteria and indicators to provide design solutions to enhance social resilience in the study area. For this purpose, using library and documentary methods, the available resources were investigated to extract the main and effective criteria and indicators for promoting social resilience. Then the conceptual model of the research was presented using deductive method. In order to select and screen the extracted indices by semi-structured interviews and inductive content analysis, selected urban design indicators were obtained in order to enhance social resilience. Finally, using the common aspects between social resilience and urban design, the most effective indicators and qualities of urban design on promoting social resilience were classified as several principles in the design section. The results show that the quality of selected urban design such as promoting social interactions, safety and security, sense of belonging, quality of public spaces and behavioral camps, inclusiveness, flexibility, informative beds, physical and environmental qualities of the neighborhood can promote social resilience. These solutions in the Imamzadeh Ghasem neighborhood can be achieved by creating communal and educational spaces and reviving cultural spaces to promote collective awareness and learning for risk perception. Also, by reviving public open spaces and injecting appropriate activities, promotion of behavioral bases and social capital can be done through increasing interactions and communication in the context of mentioned behavioral bases. Such a society develops the capacity for change and responds at a faster rate to respond and recover from crises and dangers. Keywords: resilience, social resilience, resilient urban design, Emamzadeh ghassem neighborhood
