eva‎luation and prioritization of claims reduction recommendations in Iran's construction projects

One of the factors affecting the time and cost of construction projects in all countries is the occurrence of claims between the parties to construction contracts, which is becoming more important in Iran due to its inflationary conditions. But the researches in this field in Iran are focused on the causes of claims, and the issues related to reducing the incidence of claims in Iran's construction projects are often done on the margins of the research and in a general way, but the present research is directly and in a more comprehensive and quantitative way. In this study, at first, it was collected the recommendations for reducing claims in construction projects by reviewing previous articles in this field and then selecting the most important recommendations with the help of experts in this field. In the next step, the selected recommendations were eva‎luated through the distribution of a questionnaire among experts based on the four criteria of time, cost, frequency, and impact on claim reduction, and then analyzed using the hierarchical analysis method, and finally, the recommendations for determining the framework for changes in the costs caused by currency jump, in addition to the existing circulars, determining the penalty for late payments and providing executive documents to the contractor for the employer in the contract, determining the method of calculating costs (or damages) in case of changes in the orders and initial volumes for the employer in the contract, and preparing the plan Scheduling including possible and realistic upcoming delays focused on the critical path won the first ranks with a small difference from the ideal state.
