ترغيب دانش آموزان براي بيشتر صحبت كردن همواره از دغدغه هاي اصلي معلمان است زيرا پيشرفت در صحبت كردن وابسنه يه آن است. يكي از مواردي كه ميتواند باعث شود زبان آموزان بيشتر مايل به صحبت كردن باشند دادن آزادي عمل به آن ها در انتخاب موضوع مكالمه است. در اين مقاله 20 زبان آموز از موسسه اي خصوصي در تهران مورد بررسي قرار گرفته اند. اين زبان آموزان در سطح متوسط بوده اند و به صورت تصادفي به دو گروه تقسيم شدند. گروه اول در مورد موضوعات مورد علاقه شان صحبت كردند و گروه دوم در مورد موضوعاتي كه مورد علاقه شان نبود. اين مكالمات ضبط شدند و مورد بررسي قرار گرفتند. بر اساس نتايج به دست آمده انتخاب موضوع مورد علاقه باعث شد زبان آموزان بيشتر صحبت كنند و اپيزودهاي زباني بيشتري داشته باشند ولي اين نتايج قابل ملاحظه نبودند.

Student's preference on topic selection and it's impact on the length of conversations and number of language related episodes

The present study investigated the relationship and impact of topic selection on the length of discussions and also the number of language related episodes happening during these discussions. 20 (16 female and 4 male) students participated in this study. The data was collected from the students of a private IELTS institute in Tehran, Iran. Using a questionnaire asking the students to rate their favorite topics that included an open-ended question asking about students’ preferences in topic selection, and recorded discussions of students conversing about these topics. Discussions took place online and on Skype. Students were randomly put into two different groups and later different pairs. Based on questionnaires, the first group discussed two of their most favorite topics and the second group discussed two of their least favorite topics. SPSS software was used to analyze the results. An Independent sample T-test was run to investigate the significance of topic selection on the length of the discussions and the number of LREs. While topic selection increased both the average time of discussions and the number of language related episodes, none of the results were significant.
