Redesigning Sahib al-Amr Square (Tabriz) utilizing Landscape Urbanism approach to enhance the quality of life for people Urban squares are among the most impactful urban spaces in the mindset of citizens, such that residents usually identify a city by its squares. Nowadays, due to the expansion of contemporary cities, squares have lost their prominence. Moreover, historical squares, which once played significant roles and hosted various activities around them like mosques, palaces, and schools, are fading into oblivion. Therefore, this thesis aims to redesign historical squares to preserve their historical-cultural values and enhance the quality of life for the people. Initially, the related theoretical foundations have been investigated, followed by an exploration of the city of Tabriz in general, and Sahib al-Amr Square (Tabriz Bazaar) specifically as the design case study. Ultimately, through an analysis in the recognition phase, an examination has been conducted on the overlap of design principles for squares and open urban spaces with a landscape urbanism approach and the principle of quality in urban environments. Subsequently, a questionnaire was prepared to measure the success of Sahib al-Amr Square design and its capability in increasing the satisfaction level and the quality of life for visitors. The findings indicate that in the Sahib al-Amr Square area in Tabriz, the lack of appropriate welfare and service facilities, infrastructure weaknesses (transportation, green space, healthcare, education) , negligence towards permeability (physical-visual) , absence of various user diversities, have resulted in the economic decline of the people and a lack of investment interest in this area. Consequently, this area has lost its connection with the entire city, leading to a regional imbalance in Tabriz. One of the significant outcomes is the disappearance of the historical Sahib al-Amr Square (Tabriz) and its transformation into a freight yard. The disappearance of this square is one of the crucial issues that, with redesigning, should be addressed for urban revitalization and sustainable development. Hence, solutions with a "landscape urbanism" approach have been proposed to convert this area into a tourism and historical hub, provide appropriate welfare and service facilities, make the square flexible against rapid urban changes, through the utilization of diverse yet coherent and integrated forms, use of indicative and identity-giving elements, and attention to visual sequences. All these measures are aimed at promoting the economic growth of this area, improving the quality of life for people, and preserving the cultural and historical heritage of the region.
