Energy plays a pivotal role in societal development, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of "energy governance," a field that has garnered significant scholarly attention over the past two decades. This study aims to map the intellectual landscape of energy governance research through a systematic literature review, identifying key themes and anticipating future research trajectories. Employing bibliometric analysis and keyword co-occurrence analysis, this study examines the corpus of articles indexed in the Scopus database, complemented by a review of relevant domestic scientific publications. The analysis identifies prominent research topics within energy governance since 2006, the year of the fieldʹs first publication, and elucidates the evolving relationships between core concepts. The studyʹs novelty lies in its systematic keyword analysis, which reveals the diachronic evolution of thematic priorities within energy governance. Findings indicate that "renewable energy transition" and "energy security" have consistently been central concerns. "Climate change" and "climate governance" have emerged as prominent foci in the last decade. Recent research emphasizes the role of "people and communities" in achieving "sustainable energy," suggesting a potential growth area. Comparative analysis with Iranian energy governance trends reveals that issues like "community energy" and "sustainable energy," while globally significant, warrant greater attention in Iran. Furthermore, concepts such as "energy geopolitics," "energy security," and "energy efficiency" hold heightened importance for Iran due to its specific energy context. Conversely, despite global interest in "climate change" and "energy transition," Iranian energy experts perceive these as less immediate priorities for the nation.
