Parking policies play a crucial role in managing urban parking spaces, which are increasingly in demand due to population growth and the rising number of vehicles. Accurate estimation of parking demand is essential for effective planning and manage-ment of parking facilities. Various methods, including parking rates, multiple linear regression models, and geographically weighted regression models, have been used to estimate parking demand. However, conventional methods have limitations and may lead to unrealistic estimations.
To address these challenges, researchers have proposed new approaches, such as considering the desirability of surrounding areas when determining parking locations. Additionally, automatic parking systems using image processing algorithms have been developed to estimate parking demand and improve parking guidance.
Effective parking management strategies should be integrated with wider transportation policies to promote sustainable mobility and provide economic, social, and environmental benefits.
