  • چکيده
    The contamination of water resources by heavy metals has become a major environmental challenge due to the toxic, persistent, an‎d non-biodegradable nature of these pollutants. Industrial activities, mining operations, agricultural practices, an‎d improper waste disposal are among the main sources of heavy metal pollution in aquatic environments. Conventional treatment methods for heavy metal removal often face limitations such as high operational costs, complex processing requirements, an‎d the generation of secondary pollutants. As a result, the development of sustainable an‎d cost-effective treatment strategies has gained increasing attention.Bioadsorption has emerged as an efficient an‎d environmentally friendly approach for the removal of heavy metals from contaminated water. Bioadsorbents derived from biological materials, including microorganisms, plant-based materials, agricultural wastes, an‎d biochar, exhibit high adsorption capacity due to the presence of various functional groups on their surfaces. These functional groups enable effective binding of metal ions through mechanisms such as ion exchange, complexation, chelation, an‎d electrostatic attraction. Numerous studies have reported high removal efficiencies for toxic metals such as lead, cadmium, chromium, copper, mercury, an‎d zinc .This seminar reviews the fundamental principles of adsorption an‎d biosorption, the classification an‎d characteristics of different types of bioadsorbents, an‎d recent applications of bioadsorbents in heavy metal removal. Special attention is given to agricultural waste-derived bioadsorbents an‎d biochar-based materials as sustainable alternatives to conventional adsorbents. The advantages, limitations, an‎d future perspectives of bioadsorption are also discussed. Overall, bioadsorbents represent a promising solution for sustainable water treatment an‎d environmental remediation.
