چکيده
Water is the essential foundation of life and a critical resource for
industrial development. However, the rapid escalation of global
population, urbanization, and industrial activities has led to a severe
deterioration in freshwater quality. Modern contaminants have evolved
from simple suspended solids and pathogens to complex, persistent
organic pollutants (POPs), pharmaceuticals, heavy metals, and
microplastics..
Conventional water treatment methodologies, such as coagulation,
flocculation, sand filtration, and chlorination, have been the industry
standard for decades. While effective against basic turbidity and
biological threats, these traditional methods are increasingly insufficient
against dissolved chemical pollutants and often result in secondary
issues like hazardous sludge generation and toxic disinfection byproducts (DBPs).
This booklet provides a comprehensive overview of the paradigm shift
towards advanced water treatment technologies. We explore Advanced
Oxidation Processes (AOPs), which utilize hydroxyl radicals for
molecular degradation; Membrane Filtration Technologies (Reverse
Osmosis, Nanofiltration) that offer ion-level separation; and
Nanotechnology, which leverages the unique surface properties of
nanomaterials for superior adsorption and antimicrobial action.
Furthermore, we discuss the integration of these technologies into
hybrid systems, the shift towards Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD), and the
sustainability implications of adopting these modern solutions. This
research highlights that while advanced methods require higher initial
investment, they are indispensable for ensuring future water security and
environmental compliance
