چکيده
The oil and gas sector is among the most complicated in terms of data and technology,
producing vast amounts of varied data from seismic information, drilling operations, drilling
logs, production monitoring systems, and supply chain activities. Although there is more data
than can be managed, much of it is not being put to use due to issues like data silos,
inconsistencies, noise, or stale statistics or physics models. At the same time, the industry is
wrestling with urgent issues: poor reservoir performance, fluctuating oil costs, pent-up demand
for energy, older infrastructure, and expanding environmental regulations. Taken together,
these factors require innovative computational methods, to uncover hidden patterns and predict
operational risks while strengthening decision-making for improved productivity and
sustainability in real time.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern data mining methods promise to be developmentally
transformative solutions, able to convert unrefined and complicated datasets into actionable
knowledge. By applying machine learning, neural networks, and advanced analytics, AI
enables predictive maintenance of critical assets, optimal drilling and production assessments,
improved reservoir characterization, and overall safety performance. Data mining
complements all of these methods, as it is designed to identify correlations, anomalies, and
trends that would remain hidden in very large, multivariate datasets. These technologies
together provide a transition from reactive management to proactivity, minimizing unplanned
downtime, costs, and maximizing efficiency.
This research focuses on the application of AI and data mining technologies to enhance
performance and productivity in the oil and gas industry with special consideration for Iraqʹs
petroleum industry, which is still one of the largest producers in the world despite other
operational, political and infrastructural challenges [5]. By means of a state-of-the-art review,
the identification of gaps, and potential identified applications, this research emphasizes the
transformative nature of intelligent algorithms in tackling the challenges of production
inefficiencies and sustainability in Iraq. The importance of this undertaking lies with its dual
contribution; academic understanding of AI-driven analytics in oil and gas and contributions
towards providing value to policymakers, engineers, and operators. By bringing about
innovation, efficiency, and environmentally sustainable practices in one of the most important
industries in the world, this research hopes to promote both.
