چکيده
The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things (IoT) has exposed significant limitations in traditional network architectures, particularly in terms of scalability, security, flexibility, and Quality of Service (QoS). Software-Defined Networking (SDN) emerges as a promising solution by separating the control and data planes, enabling centralized management, programmability, and global network visibility.
This seminar analyzes the evolution of SDN-IoT integration from centralized models to distributed and edge-based architectures, highlighting how hierarchical Edge-SDN frameworks address latency, bandwidth, and management challenges in large-scale IoT deployments. Using a systematic literature review of recent studies (2020–2024), the research identifies key opportunities such as enhanced security enforcement, QoS optimization, network slicing, and improved mobility management.
Case studies in smart healthcare and smart grid systems demonstrate measurable improvements in latency, reliability, and resource utilization. Despite these advancements, challenges remain in scalability, interoperability, and energy efficiency. The study concludes that edge-integrated SDN architectures provide a scalable and intelligent foundation for next-generation IoT applications.
