Abstract
Making use of existing potentials in urban settings in order to upgrade the quality of the environment is one of the known solutions that are of benefit in urban plans and urban design programs.Utilizing those potentials in historical fabrics as the contexts for urban settings thorough theexact review of dimensions and preparation of applicable design patterns not only enhances the efficiency of those sites, but also as an affecting tool can prevent gradual decease of historical fabrics. In spite of the fact that it is a common trend to use the potentials of historical fabrics in most of ancient cities all over the world, it is neglected in our country to use those abilities.
What is considered in this thesis is presenting urban design patterns and criteria using the contextual approach in order to elevate the quality of historical fabrics. Since pattern has a common application for and it can vary in terms of context, time and place, can be used as the functional guide for most of the urban fabrics. Thus, the historical texture of HAMEDAN city is chosen as the case study for this thesis to implement the urban design pattern.Urban design instructions have been prepared during the context-oriented recognitionof potentials inthis axis in order to heighten the physical and social values of the area.
Keywords: environmental quality, historical fabric, contextual design, urban design, pattern.
