  • چكيده
    This study investigated the impact of teaching communication strategies on the willingness to communicate of Iranian EFL learners. To this end, eight intact classes in Asatid Language Institute were included as the experimental and control groups. In addition to the regular language instruction for the two groups, the experimental group received the treatment (communication strategy training) while the control group did not. The measurement of the willingness to communicate was carried out before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the treatment. In addition, the relations between willingness to communicate and some other related constructs such as sex, age, educational level, and marital status, were also examined. The analysis of data showed that the difference in the willingness to communicate for the treatment group was statistically significant. As for the control group, no statistically significant difference was found. The conclusion was that teaching communication strategies helps learners improve their willingness to communicate. Moreover, findings indicated that neither sex nor marital status has a significant impact on an individual's willingness to communicate. Age and educational level, however, seemed to impact upon the way an individual is willing to communicate.
