The use of geosynthetic retaining walls due to advantages such as low cost, speed of execution, performance , aesthetics, ease of construction and lack of corrosion have been accepted as a substitute for other retaining walls. During the past two decades many researchers conducted several experimental Studies on the behavior of these walls. But due to limitations of laboratory models the foundation of these models considered as rigid foundation.
In this study, first tried to validation of software using numerical modeling a large-scale experimental model that based on a rigid foundation. Then, by modeling of the geosynthetic retaining wall that based on a soft foundation, study the effect of soft foundation on static and dynamic behavior of geosynthetic retaining walls.
The results show that in static state with softening foundation lateral displacement, settlement of wall crest and force in reinforcement are significantly increased. Also, in dynamic state with softening foundation natural frequency of the system is reduced and due to the low dominant frequency of earthquakes the frequency of loading and system are closer together, and This increases the lateral displacement and settlement of the wall crest.
