Abstract: Nowadays, information on the web is rapidly increasing an​d a large a mount of this information is in XML format. One of the advantages of XML usage is showing of non-structured data which provides users with many abilities. The XML’s attribute of being non-structured an​d the flexibility of data made it popular an​d it is being used in databases too. Hence, providing security in XML documents is necessary. No matter in what format data are saved, they should be protected against possible threats (data stealing, damage, manipulation, hack an​d so on). To prevent these threats, methods an​d models have been developed in databases. The most important model is access control. This model is based on several methods that are used in different databases. In this dissertation, after analyzing access control methods, a new bitmap-based an​d function-based method in order to control access has been proposed. In this method the attempt was to resolve all problems an​d flaws of the bitmap-based an​d function-based method. Keywords: XML Database, Access control, Security, Bitmap.
