Abstract:
The face-core debounding is a dominated problem in sandwich structures. A debonded region in a sandwich panel may cause local buckling. Local buckling initiates the propagation in debonded region, and debound will be extended through the width of the panel. This debonding can effectively reduce the load capacity of sandwich panels and cause failure of the structure. Hence, study of the behavior of debonded region in a sandwich panel under in-plane compression loading and induced bending is a subject of matter in this research.
The analysis of face-core debound will be done by using numerical methods, in particular, cohesive zone method. This method will be implemented in both classical and extended finite element analysis; the first for analysis of face-core debond and the second for checking the possibility of crack kinking in the core. This thesis will present a procedure to analysis of face-core debonding in foam-cored sandwich panels under in-plane compression and induced bending.
