Increase of crimes and its distribution model in urban spaces has made residents of cities to be worried about security of life in big and populated cities.
The most important requirement to understand, identify and applying environment gifts is to ensure safety. In case of lack of safety minds of people shall stay busy therefore they would not apply their opportunity to identify other facilities. Importance of this expectation is as much as if it is not fulfilled it will have a quick feedback and will make people to react in spite of other expectations. Because shortage or lack of safety is equal to feeling of danger and shall result a defending status. This reaction will appear by people in city and public spaces.
Public spaces are places for fulfilling daily and general life needs in cities. These spaces, during time and according to social-economic and cultural situation is changeable. Obviously joy of being present in urban spaces and making social relations is a right for all citizenships. Nature of public places, estates the space in a way that is joyful for everybody. Also current activities in these spaces may be investigated and may be reorganized to prevent social segregation and creating fear and insecurity. There is a great difference between real levels of danger threating people and level of feeling danger by people. Investigations show that statistics of crime in public places is very low but users of these places have feeling of fear and assume themselves in danger.
According to above information, in this study titled “Investigation the Impact of Environmental Qualities on Urban Spaces Safety” is tried to present strategies to upgrade safety and encourage people to be present in these spaces through analyzing urban spaces, case studies and requirement of studied statistical society.
In the present study which contains 5 chapter, effective criteria on security of urban places are studied. In first chapter, introduction and methodology and reasons of the study are mentioned, second chapter contains theoretical foundations that relate to the study, third chapter contains theories and global experiences related to safety in England, Australia, Canada and Iran. 4th chapter identification and analysis of study limits, field and structures are described, 5th chapter has two parts in first part perspective and goals and in second part recommendations and finally design according to findings of previous chapters are investigated.
