Rail transportation system in comparison to other transportation systems due to advantages such as low cost and low fuel consumption has been developed. Also considering the low speed of Iran Railways tracks, the necessity of designing High-speed rail tracks is more than ever. According to this issue, having a good standard or regulations is necessary.
In this study, After reviewing different high-speed codes and standards such as TSI, CEN,…; advantages and disadvantages of both slab and ballasted track were identified. The slab track has advantages such as low maintenance cost, the stability of track and good lateral resistance. However, due to advantages such as low initial costs and simple implementation, ballast track is more common. In this thesis, after technical comparison of slab and ballasted track and modelling both of tracks in speed, 120, 160, 200, 300 and 350 Km/h; the effect of changing of horizontal curves, cant and length of transition curves in lateral and vertical displacement, force (Nadal critical), their effect on safety and derailment of track was specified.
The results show that, at same geometrical conditions, on average the maximum lateral displacement in slab track is about 50 percent less than the ballasted track which is expected due to the large vertical and lateral stiffness in slab track. The maximum vertical displacement on average, at same geometrical conditions, in slab track is about 40 percent less than ballasted track.
