Abstract:
In recent years, desulfurization of fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel has been great importance. Containing sulfur-compounds in hydrocarbon fuels cause produsing and spreading sulfoxides , environment contamination and also inactivation of chemical catalysts.Afterwards, for reducing harmful influences of sulfur-compounds,in so many countries in the world laws have been enacted.
In this research with studying various methods for desulfurizarion and their limitation, oxidative desulfurization process for removing sulfur-compounds was recognized as the best option. Oxidative desulfurization can be used as a complementary method for hydrogen desulfurization process used to produce fuel with low sulfur. In this process the sulfur compounds by combining oxidant, oxidize and oxidized compounds by conventional separation methods such as adsorption and extraction are separated.
In this respect, oxidative desulfurization with solid catalyst has been studied empirically and in this regard a combination of formic acid and hydrogen peroxide as the oxidizing agent and activated solid catalysts based on activated carbon have been used as a catalyst to uninstall sulfur-compounds. The aim of this study was to investigate the parameters affecting the reaction system and compare different solid catalysts in this situation is to do Desulfurization. In this regard, the response surface methodology (RSM) was used to design the experiment.the parameters in this research are the ratio of fuel volume to the volume of aqueous phase, the ratio of catalyst to fuel and time.
The results showed that the volume ratio of fuel to the aqueous phase has the greatest impact on our system, the best number for this ratio was 3. The mass ratio of catalyst to fuel parameter 1% and 60 minutes for time parameter are the best conditions for this system. Activated carbon catalyst produced by the Japanese company named “Kanto” was very suitable for this system and the conditions listed in the removal of sulfur were up 91.8%. In this case Dimethylformamide used as extraction solvent and extraction was performed in a single step, we could make a fuel with 1550 ppm sulfur a fuel with 135ppm sulfur by using oxidative desulfurization and Activated carbon catalyst.
