The man has always created their home in harmony with nature in different geographical circumstances. In recent centuries, by the development of industry and irrational use of land and technology, unsustainable development has occurred. Excessive physical development without planning has caused the destruction of the natural environment around cities, incompatibility with the climate and the urban structure and the same urban construction patterns.
In the wake of heterogeneous developments, the demand for sustainable urban development, particularly in the ecological cities increased and the need to considering the environmental dimension of development is more crucial than ever. So the main result of this study is to achieve principles for construction and vernacular pattern of cities to develop ecological cities and reduce their similarity.
Among the urban areas of Tehran, region 22 as the West Entrance, by its extent and having high ecological potencies and the rapid development of the region, needs assessment and scrutiny especially on the environmental dimension. The subject matter of this research is to assessment the compatibility extent of the urban structure of region 22 with its climate?
The research method of this study is descriptive and analytic, and it is a practical study. By the library and documentary methods and field observations, the climate factors affecting the ecological urban planning has been investigated, and the results are presented as a map by Using GIS software and the ecological potential assessed Technique. After the integration of climate factors in one map, the suitable areas for ecological development are extracted and after prioritizing the strategies and principles resulting from the possibilities and limitations of the region according to Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) to achieve an ecological development in the area, the vernacular policies are written. In general, it can be acknowledged that the development of Tehran's region 22 is acceptable regarding compatibility with ecological potencies and not acceptable regarding physical harmony.
