Quinolines due to the wide range of activities and applications have attracted thought. Their known derivatives have wide applications in the pharmaceutical, bioorganic and industries chemical as well as in synthetic organic chemistry. Among the medicinal properties of quinoline, anti-cancer, anti-malarial, anti-inflammatory, anti-asthmatic, anti-pain, anti-bacterial, anti-virus, anti-fungus, cardiovascular and anti-hypersensitive activities can be named. A particular group of quinolines are indenoquinolines which their derivatives due to wide range of biological activities such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-tumour and as inhibitor for stereoid reductase are very important.
Therefore, much efforts doing for synthesis of indenoquinoline skeletons from new, simple and direct methods and reported for synthesis of indeno[2,1-b]quinolineone derivatives.
A sulfonated magnetic cellulose-based nanocomposite was used as an efficient, inexpensive and green catalyst for one-pot three-component synthesis of 7-aryl-8H-benzo[h]indeno[1,2-b]quinoline-8-ones(4) from the reaction of 1,3-indanedione(3), aromatic aldehydes(1) and 1-naphthylamine(2) under solvent-free conditions in short reaction times (2-5 min) in high yields (79-98%). The catalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture by using an external magnet and reused several times.
