Flare is one of essential equipment in the oil and gas industry which is used to burn flammable and toxic waste gases and liquids. Flaring has two major problems. First, it's harmful effects on environment such as air, water and soil pollution, noise pollution and global warming is a serious concern. The second problem is related to burning of high value gases which will cause in waste of a huge capital, so Flare gas recovery has a significant importance.
In this study, various types of flare gas recovery systems has been explained. Compression is the most expensive process in flare gas recovery. Compressor is usually used for this purpose. Using an ejector is another solution which is investigated in this study. The price of ejectors is very cheaper In comparison with compressors. Also when a high pressure flow is available, its operating costs will decrease considerably. Therefore ejector and its governing equations are discussed completely and a computer code has been presented to design and performance prediction of this equipment in various operating conditions.
Then a flare gas recovery system based on given specifications of Arak Refinery flare gas has been designed. Hysys software has been used for simulation of flare gas recovery process, including gas sweetening unit.
At the end, economical evaluation of various methods of flare gas recovery have been performed., and the ejector compression system with three parallel branches and three ejector series in each branch, with two year payback period and net present value of 10.69$ million, has been introduced, as the most optimal solution for current project.
