Abstract:
To assess earthquake-induced permanent deformations of earthen structures, Newmark (1965) Sliding Block model can be presented in the rigid, decoupled and coupled approaches. This research discusses above three approaches considering near concepts. For this purpose, observed permanent deformation of 25 real earth dams were estimated using all sliding block methods and then, each method error, were discussed in both time and frequency domains. The applied input parameters for estimating displacement of each dam was due to the recorded acceleration in the dam site or attenuation relationships. The results of this study revealed that conservative and non-conservative estimations of each method can be separated using new parameters in each domain, related to Near-Field properties. Also, it seems that these parameters have direct impact on occurring permanent deformations.
