Lateral resistance of railways is considered among the significant and influential matters regarding rail lines design. In recent decades, much effort has been made in its estimation and measurement. The importance of this parameter will increase in sharp curves, there are sharp curves in different areas of the country and awareness of the situation of lateral resistance is an essential and necessary issue.
In the present study it has been tried to respectively gain overall understanding about lateral resistance of the line, factors affecting it, the lateral forces applied to the lines resultant from an effect of navy excursion or environmental factors and finally, estimation methods and lateral force measurement components that have been brought.
In the following, the study using a filed study deals with three sharp curves with a radius of 250 meters in the Dorud- Bisheh axis. The research include single tie lateral resistance test regarding each and every single sleeper of the three curves. According to these field experiments that was carried out we found that the distribution of lateral resistance in curve length was random, and is different from one sleeper to the other. The curves are divided into three parts, input part at the two sides and the middle part and the input parts have almost identical resistance and the middle has a lower average, the difference between the input and middle parts is obtained as 12%.
