In railway traffic increasing, electricity market liberization context, upcoming lack of the fossil fuel resources, growth in the fossil fuel prices and negative impact of burning fossil fuels on the environment which has caused the global warming, have made scientists determined to find new alternatives to the electricity which is produced by fossil fuels. Recently, renewable resources being combined together or with conventional resources have been introduced as an alternative to fossil fuels. This combination makes finding the optimum size of each component to meet a load an important issue and new algorithms and views has been engendered in order to tackle this issue. This thesis deals with the techno-economical feasibility of a grid-connected solar system for Tehran-Karaj subway in the first step which has been done by HOMER. In the next step, this feasibility has been done on developing Tehran-Mashhad electrical railway which has not been constructed yet in Binalood region. This has been done by HOMER, Simulated Annealing and Genetic Algorithm. In both steps, some parameters such as investment cost, payback time, Net Present Cost, Cost Of Energy and the amount of reduction in greenhouse gases have been investigated
