Retrofitting is one of the important steps that has been paid attention by civil engineers in the last decade. There is no perfect method to retrofit buildings and each method has adventages and disadventages that should be considered. One the other hand, simulating mechanism behavior of structure is very important and it should be done before applying retrofitting.
in order to evaluate nonlinear behavior of concrete structures, Nonlinear Static Analysis (Pushover) based on performance approach can be used as appropriate approach which could provide useful information and more comprehensive and realistic understanding of nonlinear behavior of structure.
The main objective of this research is presenting a suitable retrofiting scheme based on performance approach, suitable numerical models for simulating behavioral characteristics of concrete structures retrofitted by fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) and steel jacket and also, is identification of effective criteria in selecting the method of retrofitting and the optimal method. The research method is a descriptive-analytical and information had been associated by 19 specialists in the buildings retrofitting. Therefore, providing a questionnaire, identifying effective criteria was perfoend for making decidion. Then, simulating nonlinear charactriestic of reinforced concrete members before and after retrofitting by mentioned methods was performed. A concrete frame was considered as case study and 3 retrofitting methods consist of fiber reinforced polymer, steel jacket and combination of these methods was investigated.
The results obtained from nonlinear analyses indicated that the steel jacket method is more appropriate as compared to the other methods. the results of the Analytic hierarchy process (ahp) of the 6 criteria showed that according to respondent opinion, cost was considered as the most important criterion and the steel jacket retrofitting method has been more generally accepted by gaining higher points in four criteria, including cost of execution, seismic performance, access to skilled persons and materials.
