As the machining has wide application in production of industrial parts, the optimization of this process is an attractive topic for researchers. Moreover, the finite element method has several advantages like estimation of the shear forces, distribution of tension and temperature, estimation of erosion and remained tension, dimension of tools optimization, and cutting conditions, Most of the times the level of accuracy and reliability of the estimated results depends on the selection of the fundamental equation, which expresses the flow tension of the material under the shear conditions (strain, strain rate, and temperature).
Different fundamental equations and models are presented for simulating the materials’ flow tension under machining conditions. One of the most accurate and practical equations is Johnson and Cook fundamental equation which is applied in this thesis in order to simulate the flow tension of Aluminum 2024 alloy.
