Nowadays, knowledge is considered as one of basic parameters in determining level of development of a country, and also an important key factor in organizations’ increase of productivity and also economic growth. The more a country makes effort towards knowledge production and efficient management of it, the more economic growth and national development would be observed in it. Universities are among those organizations involved in production and creation of knowledge in the countries. In order to produce knowledge, a university takes advantage of those resources such as employees, faculty members, educational facilities and space. Universities are mainly aimed at optimized usage of these limited resources, to obtain expected output. Therefore, every university or faculty has to obtain satisfactory outputs, against certain inputs. This is why; evaluating educational institutes has turned to a critical issue.
DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) is one of the methods used for evaluation of performance and efficiency of different units. In fact, by efficiency we mean productivity in using resources, proportional to the best performance in a time interval.
The research is aiming at evaluating performance of engineering faculties in Iranian governmental universities, through DEA; so that, each and every engineering faculty in Iran and consequently in the world would be identified. Moreover, it results in upgrading level of faculties, and creation of a competitive environment for universities to make science and research advancement throughout the country.
