Abstract:
Hydroxyapatite with Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2 formula and specific crystallographic structure of hexagonal or monoclinic, is of the calcium phosphate compounds and 95 to 97 percent of enamel, 70 to 75 percent of dental bone and 60 to 70 percent of the body's bones. This material ideally has a hexagonal building and forming the inorganic part of bone. HAp hap due to the specific structure, the ability to replace the ion in its structure. HAp has many applications. Hydroxyapatite because of resistance to corrosion, as part of dental materials and the properties of photoluminescence, the effect of ionizing radiation in their stores , that this is for dosimetry applications. As well as applications are such as dating, dating survey in archeology and paleontology are and because of the high absorption properties, as adsorbent and reagent compounds and toxic metals in the water used. Research shows, biological apatite, that have carbonate bands and small amounts of other elements are differences in terms of physical, chemical, mechanical, crystallinity and solubility, the apatite is bogus. Research shows, biological apatite, carbonate and small amounts of other elements that have bands are differences in terms of physical, chemical, mechanical, crystallinity and solubility, the apatite is bogus. In this study, nano-structure hydroxyapatite powder, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2, doped with Europium in different mole percentage of 1,2,4 and 5 were synthesized. The nano-powders were obtained by hydrolysis of Ca(OH)2 and DCPD(CaHPO4.2H2O) in aqueous solution and then analyzed through X-ray diffraction , scanning electron microscopy systems. The results show Eu has been successfully doped into the hydroxyapatite structure. The samples were objected to Cobalt-60 gamma rays irradiation with doses of 25 Gy to 800 Gy. Then, the thermoluminescence properties of gadolinium doped hydroxyapatite including dose response, reusability and fading were studied and compared with the pure hydroxyapatite. The glow curves of samples showed a main peak at around 200°C.
