Abstract:
The production of plastic waste in the world and its distribution in nature is inevitable and continuously increasing, which has created many environmental problems for humans. Therefore, in this research, the potential of waste plastic bottles (PET) shreds for reinforcement and improving the behavior of sandy soils has been studied.so, reinforcement of 161 Firoozkuh sand with PET in industrial dimensions with weight percentages of 0, 0.6, 1 and 1.5 in two relative densities of 40 and 70 percent and confining pressures of 50, 100, 250 and 500 kPa under undrained triaxial test is evaluated. results show that by increasing the weight percentages of the PET, the increase in resistance was achieved both relative densities, as well as with increasing confining pressures, the resistance also increased, which, at confining pressure of 50 kPa, due to the inactivation of the mechanism between PET shreds and soil grain, There was no improvement soil strength. With the increase in relative density of 40 to 70 percent for pure sand and sand mixture with PET, increase in strength is achieved.
