From the oil crisis in the 1970s until now, extensive research has been done on of the environmental challenges facing human societies because of increasing the use of non-renewable energy sources and air pollutants. Reducing energy consumption and the need for renewable energy sources in the building industry is considered as one of the most important solutions to the crisis at the international level.
In our country, Iran, managing and reducing energy consumption is one of the essential requirements of the building industry in the country, which requires the design and construction of green buildings with high environmental performance. Such buildings during their life cycle have the least use of non-renewable resources, the least produce of greenhouse gas emissions, water pollution and the least impact on local ecosystems with the highest indoor quality.
The design of these buildings requires the consideration of a wide range of sustainability issues in the early levels of the design process, along with the effective collaboration between human factors. The design and construction of such structures requires a fundamental overhaul of traditional building processes because traditional processes have linear structures and are unable to provide high-performance buildings.
In this study, first the use of the integrated design process has been considered as a solution to achieving green buildings with high environmental performance. This design process continues to be a new topic despite of high potential for achieving green building. In the area of concepts, principles, and stages of its formation, there are numerous and diverse interpretations that indicate research around this topic has not been sufficient. These issues have led to little use of this process by building-up activists.
Then, with using systematic review method, the various dimensions of the integrated design process reviewed and the themes are extracted. Human factors, process goals and strategies that are selected and implemented by human factors during the process are identified as the three main themes of the integrated design process. Considering the many previous studies on the design process objectives, this research focuses on the two themes of human factors and strategies. Human factors of the integrated design process the role of individuals and their features. The integrated design process solutions divided into the water, site, materials and resources, energy and atmosphere, and indoor quality.
In addition to the three themes mentioned above, the levels of the integrated design process were considered as the basis of design process. My Design process for residential green building in Tehran was developed with aggregating the process of building design in Iran (a process presented by the Planetary Budget Organization) with the design processes of other countries. During the design process, at each level, strategies were made to achieve the green building, and using the appropriate tools to influence the solutions adopted on the building simulation.
