In this research we study the most predominant faults that cause most of failures and destructions in rotary machines. The importance of these three defects unbalance, misalignment and rotor rub is their ability to cause the rise of each other when the two of them are accruing simultaneously in the system, in other words these defects are almost taking place in a system simultaneously. There have been so many studies and researches to detect each of these defects individually but because of the changes in signals and the behavior of system when the defects accrue simultaneously there is a few studies for multi faults cases.
The aim of this project is the detection and characterization of three defects unbalance, misalignment and rotor rub simultaneously. To cover a vast variety of faults, there are four different intensity for unbalance fault, two cases for misalignment and two cases for rotor rub. To take into consideration the effect of rotor rotation speed all the faults are simulated in two speeds.
Using the advanced signal processing methods such as composite spectrum and second order bispectrum can help to recognize the type of faults and their severity by only one accelerometer sensor on each one of bearing housings.
Experimental results show that the proposed method has a good potential to diagnosis multiple faults such as unbalance, misalignment and rotor rub of rotating machinery simultaneously.
