Abstract:
Highly porous polymers are produced by emulsion polymerization of the monomers (St/DVB) in continues organic phase of high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs). These polymers have unique properties such as high pore volume at least 74% density lower than 0.1 gcm-3 and interconnected cellular structure .The mentioned properties increase potential of poly HIPEs polymers for a variety of applications such as separation process, filtration media, catalysis supports, chromatography, The purpose of this study is the synthesis of poly HIPEs porous polymers via polymerization of W/O HIPEs. First of all, the effect of emulsification parameters such as. Effects of cross-linking agent, emulsifier, initiator, polymerization temperature, polymerization time, the water/oil volume ratio, and the dosage of co-monomer on the properties of high oil-absorption were discussed. And morphology of resulting foams was investigated. Following, the effect of a poly octen comonomer, on absorption foam, morphology and mechanical properties was examined. The results of experiments exhibited the open-cell structure of resulting foams strongly depends on concentration of comonomer. And also, the mechanical properties of foams reduced by increasing content of poly octen in P (St/DVB) foam. . The optimum polymerization conditions for synthesis of High oil-absorbing resins were obtained. The oil absorbency of the resin remained constant after a few times recovery.
