According to experts, Iran is among the countries that are most prone to earthquakes in the world. Official figures indicate that 6% of the whole country's casualties, over the past 25 years, resulted from earthquakes. Reports released by the National Disaster Reduction National Committee estimate that it is likely that an earthquake with an average of 6 magnitudes per year, and an earthquake with 7 magnitudes on the Richter scale every decade hit the country.
It seems that the most logical way to deal with these natural disasters is to increase the supervisions and standards of constructions. However, considering the current unstable economic situations for the whole society and the time which is needed to re-enforce and improve these building, the only viable solution, along increasing and sustaining high standards and supervisions, is to make the country ready to react swiftly in emergency situations.
The main issue of the research is the conditions of children and their education in the aftermath of a natural disaster. In times of crisis, children lose their homes and schools at once and suffer from an extremely severe emotional blow.
Many psychologists take immediate action and start to talk to them so that they can restore the spiritual dimension of children; but to doing so, children need a new place. If it was possible to provide or build a new place for them, they might feel much better, bring fresh hope, help them to get out of the intense situation and feel more secure. Taking a case study approach, authors investigated the most recent severe earthquakes (i.e., Bam and Kermanshah) which struck this country. The time of the reconstruction process and the actions that took place at any time during the process, as well as the approach to the problem have been considered. From these studies, the researchers extracted design factors, taking a product-based approach, they decided to apply them to the final product. This research attempt to fill the gap between ideal conditions (i.e., buildings that are fully prepared for natural disasters such as earthquakes) and the vulnerable situation of current buildings of the country.
