Using power electronic equipment in residential and office buildings, commercial complexes, industrial loads such as heating, lighting, domestic appliances which are single-phase with variable load pattern has made, LV power systems imbalanced and harmonic polluted. The presence of harmonics in imbalanced power systems can generate vital problems such as excessive neutral current, additional losses, and costs. Therefore, a detailed study about these problems in LV power systems seems to be necessary which is studied in this thesis.
Firstly a definition and three indices for imbalanced and harmonic polluted power systems are proposed, and the tolerances are discussed.
Then, a novel algorithm for balancing the loads of the three phases, by employing an agent-based model and Modified Leap-Frog algorithm, is proposed which determines the candidate loads for replacement as well as their best configuration between phases.
Finally, the results of applying the proposed algorithm through different scenarios are investigated.
