Urban streets and passageways are not only the loci connecting and relating the urban spaces and activities to one another but they are also envisioned as the manifestation and mirror of life in every city. Based thereon, the streets and passageways, including the pavements, are expected to be objectified in diverse and alternate forms in various cultures. Pedestrian-orientation is theoretically laid on the foundation of human scale. In such an urbanization approach, pedestrian, as the most important factor participating in traffic, is given the largest quotient. Thus, the importance of walking and expansion of the pavements as one of the most important ways of transportation is legitimized and legalized in the transportation system. Nowadays, the pedestrians’ movement should take place safely and easily with the use of advanced transportation technology. Statistics indicate that the pedestrians account for a considerable share of movement in short distances below a mile for such purposes as purchase, work, recreation, visit, spending leisure time, doing exercises and a combination of the abovementioned cases in the vivacious urban transportation of the cities worldwide.
The area studied herein is situated in the downtown part of Fasa and it is considered as a strategic place surrounded by the first layer of Fasa constructions, old texture of the city, and it is in fact the seminal and historical nucleus of the old Fasa. The street is 750 meters in length and it is positioned in a part of the city with a relatively pleasant climate. The street features abundant touristic capabilities, though it is currently undergoing an identity change due to inconsistent constructions. After the construction of Imam Street, the city is still expanding westward along the north and south axes of the street. It is especially important and necessary to deal with appropriate spaces fitting the people of our country. Unfortunately, we are presently bearing witness to a lesser presence rate of the people in the society that might be due to the problems existent in the city. We have frequently witnessed the people’s falling down or their imbalance due to the defections of the urban spaces or, occasionally, the passersby’s negligence of the people’s movement and jostling them. The current research paper tries investigating the characteristics and special needs of pedestrians when on the move and using the urban spaces.
The first chapter of the present study deals with such introductions as statement of the problem and the necessity of doing research. The second chapter investigates the study background and theoretical foundations. Chapter three presents the domestic and global experiences, the former being a review of the studies on Marvi Passageway and Sepah Salar Garden. The main scales are obtained following the investigation of the frequency of the thinkers’ ideas and notions and the policies and objectives are tabulated based on Carmona’s indicators. Chapter four examines various areas of the research (pervasive, immediate and direct). In the end, an SWOT table is offered for the investigation of the entire indicators of the study realm. Chapter five gives various alternatives and the selected design is employed to delineate strategic plans following which an overall plan is offered.
Strategies and solutions are introduces in a study and investigation of Imam Khomeini Street’s pavement in Fasa considering the primary objective of the current research paper, i.e. codifying an appropriate pattern for planning and designing urban pavement landscape in urban worn-out texture in respect to such a principle as nativism so that the social-cultural and bioenvironmental qualities can be improved. The information has been gathered based on observation, photographing and recording of the incidents and daily events on the aforesaid street. SWOT model is the method of choice for the analysis of the qualitative and quantitative information. The followings are amongst the final strategies offered in the present study: the use of the backgrounds of the existent textures in line with identification of urban pavements, paying attention to the environmental quality indicators on the pavements parallel to the elevation of social interactions and enhancement of the environment vivacity, identification of the strong and weak points of the area for making managerial decisions and correct plans and paying attention to the climate in selecting the urban furniture and construction of the pavement’s walls of suitable materials and favorable form.
