Fast Bus Transfer (FBT) has been the focus of many studies sice its operational history, while industrial standards recommend avoiding FBT, because of process and safety regulations it needs to be implemented in some industrial installations, this need has made reserchers to investigate FBT in more detail and discover its shortcomings and flaws. In this study a couple of topics regarding FBT are addressed.
In the beginning of the research related studies, standards, regulations and even safety reports from FBT operators were collected and analysed. These documents shared similarities in their instructions and recommendations, and some of these sources asked for more research and studies to be conducted on the topic, including J9 working group and some studies had suggestions for future studies.
FBT effect on system harmonics during reconnection to the standby bus, errors faced during acquiring signals (voltage, frequency and phase) needed for calculations of V/Hz, type of load and its effect of motor behavior during FBT are analysed in this study.
It was shown that as predicted on precious studies type of load can affect motor behavior and so effect its performance in long term. Top three most common load types were selected and their impact on motor behavior are analysed. To analyse load type effect, FBT was initiated exactly when the V/Hz ratio was the same in all scenarios.
It was also shown that depending on which phase to be selected as the signal source, calculated V/Hz can be different.
